This is devotional thought number 5 in our devotional series titled, “O For a Faith That Will Not Shrink.”
-
“He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.” (John 9:25).
-
It takes faith to see the invisible, and a man who was born blind learned to do so at just the right time. You must be wondering how a man blind from birth would be able to see anything at all; much less, the invisible. Interestingly, a man Jesus encountered who He said was born with this challenge so God would get the glory, experienced miraculous eyesight. That’s what faith is, isn’t it? In a lot of ways, faith is supernatural eyesight. Faith that lays hold of God’s ability to do what He has promised facilitates huge blessings, even when the one who possesses it cannot understand all of the details.

This man’s story is curious to me because unlike many others whom Jesus healed, this man was unwary and Jesus healed him anyway. He did not leave his house that morning expecting, hoping to see Jesus so He could heal him. No. He was minding his business, going about His daily activities and Jesus decided to change his life forever.
-
I will not go through the details of the story here, but if you read it in your spare time, you will soon discover that Jesus was compassionate and loving enough to give this man a testimony that was so remarkable that the religious leaders could not believe it and he was overjoyed. Jesus gave the man just enough faith to believe He was able to wash away the dark shadows in which he lived and renew unto him the shining light of beauty, satisfaction, and love. The man who had never seen a rose, bowl of food, newborn baby, or his mother's nurturing smile was empowered to envision life on streets of gold when Jesus returns. He could envision himself entering in through the gates into the the heavenly city. He had the kind of faith that could see the promises of God fulfilled even if their tangible manifestations were yet in the future.

If we are to develop a shrink-resistant faith that will not fail when tested, we must allow God to wash us and make us clean in the blood of the Lamb, and then we will be rewarded when our faith will be sight.—L. David Harris (www.LDavidHarris.com)
