This is devotional thought number 6 in our devotional series titled, “O For a Faith That Will Not Shrink.”

“I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation: I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great congregation.” (Psalm 40:10).

Has God been good to you? Praise Him! I hope you don’t think I missed something after I asked this question with an obvious answer. The truth is, no matter if we realize, admit it or not, God indeed has been good to all of us. Therefore, we need to tell it. We need to become great news reporters, speaking of God’s goodness so others who need a little pick-me-up will see His goodness too, and then give Him all the praise for which He is worthy.

David was very familiar with trouble. Some of his problems were self-inflicted, but most were not. Whatever the case, trials seemed to have him on speed dial. Troubles were express mailed to his house regularly.

What’s remarkable about his story, to me, is that he never acted like life was a bed of roses. He often talked about his frenemies stressing him out and seeking his harm. He often questioned how long his enemies would prosper. He lamented the times it felt like God was not paying him any mind, even though he cried out to him day and night. David was an everyday man who was well acquainted with difficulty, and he was a man in pursuit of the heart of God. This is what set him apart. When his soul was downcast, his life seemed to be sinking in a pit of quicksand, and his enemies exulted over his near demise, he learned to double down on his commitment to faith, mirroring the faithfulness of his God and made it a point to persevere. As a result, he is quoted as saying that God “...put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: Many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord. Blessed is that man that maketh the Lord his trust, And respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies. Many, O Lord my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, And thy thoughts which are to us-ward: They cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: If I would declare and speak of them, They are more than can be numbered.” (Psalm 40:3–5).

If we are to develop a shrink-resistant faith that will not fail when tested, we need to become copycats. If God has been faithful to us, we need to copy His faithfulness and return it to Him. If God has been faithful to you, do not hide it; tell somebody! —L. David Harris (www.LDavidHarris.com)
