This is devotional thought number 35 in our devotional series, “Removing the Veil: Sanctuary Living in the 21st Century.” Our subject is: The Voice of the Lord
Here’s the question for consideration: What is the ideal outcome when we hear the voice of God?
“A Psalm of David. Give unto the Lord, O ye mighty, Give unto the Lord glory and strength. Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name; Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness. The voice of the Lord is upon the waters: The God of glory thundereth: The Lord is upon many waters. The voice of the Lord is powerful; The voice of the Lord is full of majesty. The voice of the Lord breaketh the cedars; Yea, the Lord breaketh the cedars of Lebanon. He maketh them also to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion like a young unicorn. The voice of the Lord divideth the flames of fire. The voice of the Lord shaketh the wilderness; The Lord shaketh the wilderness of Kadesh. The voice of the Lord maketh the hinds to calve, And discovereth the forests: And in his temple doth every one speak of his glory. The Lord sitteth upon the flood; Yea, the Lord sitteth King for ever. The Lord will give strength unto his people; The Lord will bless his people with peace.” (Psalm 29).
God is speaking. Are you listening? This is not the first time you’ve heard this question during this series, right? It’s because one of the biggest problems we face in the last days, is that people are either oblivious to the voice of God or couldn’t care less about what He has to say. If you are following our daily posts, I am hoping you discern and adhere to every word of God. This is my prayer.
Our theme text, is a wellspring of life to those who will hear it. Time after time, king David ascribes honor and majesty to God. He enjoins the mighty and the small to give praises to God. He deserves our praise. David enjoins worship, which is the purest form of our existence. When we worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness, we are uniting our lives with the Lifegiver. We are, to the deepest essence of ourselves, giving Him the glory He deserves. The Bible says that He created us for His glory (Isaiah 43:7). He loves to see us and admire our faith. He loves the reflection of His light He sees in the countenances of His people, which then is shed upon the paths of those who don’t know Him, leading them to right relationship with Him.
I love how David leads us into a praise session in God’s honor and then, as our proverbial voices are raised in worship, David transitions our thoughts to His voice. We lift up our voices in adoration, praise, and thanksgiving, and then we hear the voice of our God. Seven times (the number of perfection), David guides us to discern the voice of God. In the waters, we hear God’s voice. In His majesty, we hear His voice. In His power, we hear His voice. In the effects God has on nature itself, we hear His voice. In the flames of fire, we hear God’s voice. In the vastness of the wilderness, we hear God’s voice. God’s voice causes deer to give birth and strips the forests bare. David directs a symphony of truth in these words only the Great God they describe can exceed. By God’s voice, the heavens and the earth were created. By God’s voice, the waters were separated from the waters. By God’s voice, the lame walked, blind received their sight, and voiceless learned to speak. By God’s voice, will His children who are sleeping in the grave, be resurrected unto immortal life.
I hope you are worshipping right now, and yet in the beauty of your worship experience you should be wondering what in the world this has to...
