This is devotional thought number 18 in our devotional series titled, “O For a Faith That Will Not Shrink.”
“And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.” (1 John 5:14–15).
God loves you! I have reminded you of this before, but it bears repeating; especially when the society around us seems to be bent on hatred, violence, and abuse. God loves you so much that He listens. He listens to your joys, pain, disappointment, needs, hopes, and dreams. He listens to your heart when you have no idea how to communicate with Him.
How’s your confidence level with God? Do you believe He is always available to take your call, or do you feel like He is on the line with someone else when you need Him most? He wants you to have the confidence that any time you need anything from Him, all you need to do is be submitted to Him, call Him up, and ask for His guidance and blessings according to His will. This is His promise to all who will believe it and practice it by faith.
God has given us a constant revelation of His will, the Scriptures. There we find the life and ministry of Jesus Christ, God’s movements throughout the generations, and His comprehensive plan for saving us from ourselves. We can read about His compassion, and at times His loving correction when we get off track. We do not need to be in the dark about His revealed will; we need only to ask for His power to align ourselves with it. So when we pray, we can confidently request that He accomplish His purpose in our lives according to the great and precious promises of Scripture; and if there is some minute detail that we believe applies only to us, we can ask for His help in those things too. He cares enough to help us understand His will for all aspects of our lives and to empower us to accomplish it.
If we are to develop a shrink-resistant faith that will not fail when tested, we must stay connected to God, with confidence that He hears and answers prayers.—L. David Harris (www.LDavidHarris.com)
