Today’s Scripture:
“But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.” (Revelation 20:5).
Today’s Observation:
Sometimes we are still so tired when we awake in the morning that we cannot help but reach across for our annoying alarm clock, so we can hit the snooze button. Some people are so tired that the nine extra minutes are not enough to get enough rest, so they hit the snooze button several times before they finally get up. They may be late for work or miss an important appointment because they hit the snooze button one too many times.
One thousand years after the Lord comes and takes His people to heaven, they, along with Him, will return with the New Jerusalem. Those who were not found faithful at the Second Coming either stayed dead, or died because of His brightness, and a spiritual snooze alarm was engaged. When they should have been experiencing a level of peace and rest with the Lord as He developed their characters, and awaiting the final rest of eternal reward, they were doing what they thought was more important. They did not heed the incessant invitations to enter into God’s rest; therefore, they were unprepared. Because of their lack of continued faith, they arose from the grave too late. Just as the weary person wanting to get those final winks may push the snooze button one too many times only to be late for work, the wicked will come up in the wrong resurrection. The second resurrection is for those who consistently chose to miss their opportunity to rest in the Lord through love and obedience.
Conclusion:
It is time for all of us to enter into the Lord’s salvific rest. He has kept the door of relationship ajar for a little while longer. It is our privilege today, while we still have opportunity, to be prepared for Jesus’ arrival. He is waiting with open arms. Don’t be late!
A Prayer for Your Hearts:
Lord, thanks again for your promise of peace! In the name of Jesus I pray, amen.--L. David Harris (www.davidwritesalot.com)
