Today’s Scripture:
“And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.” (Revelation 21:23).
Today’s Observation:
In this time of economic unrest, it is a sobering thought to consider being out of work. After all, if we do not work, we cannot eat. Almost everything under the sun costs money. We can’t even get water fit to drink, in most cases, without paying for it first. Most of us fear the prospect of going in to work one Monday morning, and receiving the infamous pink slip stating that we are out of a job. Seldom is the idea of being out of a job a good one.
Though it is not good to be unemployed on this side of heaven, we do look forward to a time when certain unemployment will be welcomed. After Jesus comes and time will have drifted into eternity, regular jobs will no longer be needed. Let us take the sun for instance. God created it to govern the day and give light, but in the city of God, there will be no need for a sun. If it is present at all, it will be a volunteer, because there will be no night there. Policemen will certainly be out of work. There will be no need for protection, because the curse of sin will have been eternally removed. We will no longer need the services of pastors, because the gospel message will have been fully preached and we will live in its fulfillment. Presidents and monarchs of nations will also have rest because the Lord Himself will be our Leader.
Conclusion:
One day soon we will all be able to rest, nevermore to fear losing our positions, because we will be secure in everlasting success. Nothing good will be beyond our reach. Soon our only jobs will be to enjoy all that the Lord has prepared for us. Do you look forward to that day? I certainly do.
“And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it. And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof. And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it. And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there. And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it. And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.” (Revelation 21: 22-27).
A Prayer for Your Hearts:
Lord, thank you for preparing a place for us to live without sin unto salvation! In the name of Jesus I pray, amen.--L. David Harris (www.davidwritesalot.com)
