This is devotional thought number 23 in our devotional series titled, “O For a Faith That Will Not Shrink.”
“Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples. And I will wait upon the Lord, That hideth his face from the house of Jacob, And I will look for him. Behold, I and the children whom the Lord hath given me Are for signs and for wonders in Israel From the Lord of hosts, which dwelleth in mount Zion. And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, And unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: Should not a people seek unto their God? For the living to the dead? To the law and to the testimony: If they speak not according to this word, It is because there is no light in them.” (Isaiah 8:16–20).
We serve a loving, risen Savior who is ready, willing, and well able to speak the mysteries of the universe to us. He has dedicated thousands of years to the human family so we can know that God is near and cares about all we experience in life so we can live eternally. The devil, on the other hand, hates us! All he desires is to confuse, maime, disrupt, and destroy people. He wants us to look for love, acceptance, and answers to life’s mysteries in all the wrong places so we will die eternally separated from God.
As the world is worked up into an eerie interest in ghosts, goblins, horror stories, darkness, and consulting dead folks who could not possibly respond to them, they miss something vital, which I hope you won’t: that is enemy territory. God has been welcoming people into the light of truth from the beginning of time. The law and testimony of God are safe places to learn how best to connect with the unseen world of heavenly places through relationship with our Creator. We must not settle for counterfeit fairy tales, psychics, or dress up games that tamper with the the unseen world of darkness. If all of the magical TV shows, toys, activities, games, relationships, devices, etc., do not agree with God’s Word, it is because the devil is at the root of it wanting nothing more than to disrupt your relationship with God.
So please do yourself a favor today (especially): seek God’s face in all you and your children do. Let Him guide you to light, truth, holiness, and true satisfaction. Let your life become a signpost for others to see that God can deliver us from darkness and usher us into the kingdom of His marvelous light.
