Today’s Scripture Promise:
“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on thee: Because he trusteth in thee. Trust ye in the LORD for ever: For in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:” (Isaiah 26:3–4).
Today’s Observation:
It seems that peace has become a precious commodity these days. It’s valuable, elusive, powerful, sought after, and necessary for our sanity. People search for it through religion, attainments, relationships (whether the other party is interested or not), and addictive behaviors. Yet, this wonderful principle; this essential element of life; can only be found in God Himself.
Just how can we have this peace? Our theme text gives us the answer in a promise and a couple of mandates. The Word says that if we choose to transfix our minds (i.e. everything that constitutes our character and thought processes) on God, trusting in Him for everything, He will give us constant peace.
What does this look like? When you are in trouble, focus on how good God has been to you in the past. When you have doubts, remember the times God has kept His promises. When you have pain, remember that God is a Healer. When you have addictions, meditate on the fact that God satisfies even our deepest desires. When you are broken because someone is disturbing your peace, know that God can mend broken hearts.
Notice one last thing in our theme text to complete the formula: The Bible says that we should trust the Lord forever; He is our everlasting strength. The beauty of this invitation must not be lost on you. There are no other beings than the Godhead in whom we can place our trust that can give us eternal peace, because no other beings are themselves eternal. This means that at whatever point in time you need peace, God will be there to supply it if you trust in Him. He who never slumbers nor sleeps is always available to give fresh supplies of grace. When all others, and all else fails, He never fails.
Today’s Marching Orders:
Accept the call to peace. Find a way to fix your mind on God. Write Bible verses on note cards, pray, find someone else to serve. Do whatever you need to do in order to keep God in the foreground of your life.—L. David Harris (www.DavidWritesaLot.com)
