This is devotional thought number 7 in our devotional series, “The Gospel According to Psalms.”

“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron's beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments; As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.” (Psalms 133:1-3).

Godly and biblical unity is an irresistible invitation to the Holy Ghost to dwell amongst us. He said, “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:” (Hebrews 12:14).

Following His resurrection, Christ told His followers to wait in Jerusalem until the promise of the Holy Ghost came. When they were on one accord, the Bible says that the Holy Ghost gave them the gifts of diverse tongues. When the followers of Christ spoke, each person understood what was being said in their own language. The apostles preached Christ and Him crucified. The power that attended their work brought thousands of souls to God in one day. The power of the Holy Ghost that washed over the apostles was like precious ointment used to heal wounds. He used them in a way never before seen on this planet.

The Lord wants to use us mightily as well. For His glory, He would have us receive the power of the Holy Ghost even greater than that of the days of the apostles. I want the anointing power of God. How about you? He stands ready to give it in order to empower us to lead others to Jesus. “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?” (Luke 11:13).

This has been the gospel according to Psalms. Live by it!—L. David Harris (www.LDavidHarris.com)
