Based Upon Acts 23

The similarities of Paul’s story, to Christ’s, are uncanny! He professed and embraced the fact that he was Jesus’ bondservant, on a mission to set sinners free. Having read the last several chapters of the book of Acts leaves no question in my mind that this was indeed true.

Oftentimes believers forget that living for Christ in a wicked world can become quite difficult. We are strangers and pilgrims here. When we choose to receive the ministry of Christ in to our lives by faith, we are enlisting into a spiritual war. Eternity is at stake, and there is potential for countless casualties. It is our duty, in the power of the Holy Spirit, to follow every command our Captain gives. When He moves, we move. When He says to stand fast, we stand alert until He says to move again. We have a faithful record of Paul doing just that. He followed wherever Jesus led, even to the point of enduring multiple inquisitions, receiving threats of execution, being bound in prison, and this is not to mention personal tragedies like shipwreck, privation, and physical affliction. But, Paul knew that as a servant, he was not greater than his Master. If the world hated Christ (and they did), they would most certainly hate His servants.

During His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said that when persecutions come, due to your commitment to Him, rejoice and be exceedingly glad, because the faithful of old also were persecuted for Christ’s sake. You are in good company in sufferings, and you will also be in great company when God gives out His final reward. Just be faithful unto death, and patient in sufferings, for Christ’s sake, and you will receive a crown of life. The blessing in all this is that we need not worry that we will endure in our own strength. Jesus was victorious while living in the flesh, and He is still able to be victorious while abiding in your life, through the Holy Spirit. Amen.--L. David Harris (www.davidwritesalot.com)
