Based Upon Romans 1

Romans chapter 1 begins an incredible approach to knowing God! Many times, when I have been teaching the Bible to people, the questions have come up, “What if somebody has never heard of God or Jesus? Will they be lost? How will they be judged?” These are great questions. The first thing I’d like to say is that our God loves people! His chief purpose is to make provision for us all to get to know Him. While it is true that many people in remote bush villages around the world may never know the name God or Christ, as we know them in Scripture, the Most High has a thousand ways to reveal Himself, of which we know nothing.

Paul aptly taught that the invisible God is revealed through visible creation (nature). He said, That He is not ashamed of the great news about Jesus and His power to save us! He further stated, “For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:” (Romans 1:17–20). So, even the deep things of God’s nature and power can be seen in nature! This is wonderful! The Psalmist similarly taught, “The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, And night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, Where their voice is not heard. Their line is gone out through all the earth, And their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun, Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, And rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race. His going forth is from the end of the heaven, And his circuit unto the ends of it: And there is nothing hid from the heat thereof. The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.” (Psalm 19:1–10).
-
Here is the bottom line: Our God is more concerned with revealing Himself, in whom is eternal life, than we are to get to know Him. He has left nothing to chance. Everyone, no matter who we are, has the privilege and responsibility of knowing Him within their sphere of understanding. And no wonder…Did not God create us? Would it not stand to reason that He would know how to reveal Himself to us? Every human being is held accountable by God to live holy lives as He gives us strength commensurate to the revelation we are given. He’s a good and just God. It is a joy to serve Him.
