Based Upon Romans 2

Yesterday, we learned that our God is so good to us that there is no person who is excluded from knowing Him. He keeps His covenant that no person will need to “teach” his or her neighbor to know the Lord. He said He would write His laws on every heart. Now, this revelation of God is highly customized for each category of people (for lack of a better way of expressing this). For those who live deep in the bush amongst nature, God reveals the deep things of Himself through what can be clearly seen in nature. Therefore, even they are without excuse.

There is yet another group of people who may not have a grasp of truth as many know it, whom God equally loves, and to whom He equally reveals Himself. Here is what Paul taught: “For there is no partiality with God. For as many as have sinned without law will also perish without law, and as many as have sinned under the law will be judged by the law. For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be declared righteous. For whenever the Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature the things of the law, these, although they do not have the law, are a law to themselves, who show the work of the law written on their hearts, their conscience bearing witness and their thoughts one after another accusing or even defending them on the day when God judges the secret things of people, according to my gospel, through Christ Jesus.” (Romans 2:11–16, LEB). The Most High is not limited by that which those who are privileged to have the full Scripture must live by. Paul addressed those whose consciences God has educated through the Holy Spirit. In each person, God places a basic understanding of what is right and what is wrong. For example, even people who are not necessarily the brightest, basically understand that it is evil to harm children. And those who do, whether they have a clear Scripture at their disposal or not, ignore the voice of the Spirit, who has certainly placed an inkling within them to do the right thing. Such people are held accountable for that which God has revealed to their conscience through His Spirit.

What a mighty God we serve. He who created our minds, know exactly how to speak to us in a way we can understand. The key is, that when He does reveal Himself, we must respond in submission to His loving, instructive voice.
