Based Upon Romans 5

“Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God’s condemnation. For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son. So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.” (Romans 5:7–11, NLT).

The forgoing passage of Scripture is so incredible on its own merits, it’s tough for me to editorialize it. Instead of attempting to expound it, I would much rather say in the voice of another inspired Bible writer, “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.” (1 John 3:1–3).

What our God has chosen to do in the spirit of Infinite Love is nothing short of miraculous. He is faithful to us! Adam’s sin created a spiritual train wreck of our lives. While we cannot be guilty for what he did, we have been handed a generational dysfunction. He was created perfectly in the image of God, but then he sinned. And due to that fact, every person who has come after him has been born after that fallen “image.” That is to say, “Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; And in sin did my mother conceive me.” (Psalm 51:5). However, not willing to be outdone by evil, the Most High enacted the plan He and Jesus crafted in eternity past, so that those who would choose faith in Him over our sinful desires, would be recreated into the image of Christ. Here is what the Scriptures say: “For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.” (Romans 8:29). Thus it is, therefore, that the victorious life of Christ can be transferred to us by faith and our propensities toward sin can be nullified in the new birth experience. Adam passed on weakness through his weakness. Jesus (the second Adam) passed on holiness and power over sinful lusts. Part of the beauty of this blessing is that all this was done because God is good, not us. God did not see in us some noble quality upon which He wanted to capitalize. No! It was because of His great love that the gift of Christ and salvation were given. Be cause of His great love, we all can have eternal life. Whether we have suffered beneath the burden of pride, rebellion, murderous thoughts and actions, adultery and other sexual depravity, lying, stealing, cursing, inhumanity toward humanity, etc., the power of God is effective unto salvation. Let that settle in your mind today and accept a new lease on life by His grace until Jesus returns to take His people home. All are welcome. Will you repent and accept the invitation? If you do, it will change your life forever!—L. David Harris (www.davidwritesalot.com)
