“Don’t blame God for knowing everything!” This is what a church elder once told me many years ago as he described Biblical election and predestination.

There are a great many people, both who profess to follow Christ, and those who do not, who believe that God (or some power in the cosmos) has us all on an inescapable hamster wheel, which has predetermined our fate. This could not be further from the truth! They further surmise that assuming that is true, we simply kick back and live life, knowing that no matter what choices we make, we will fulfill the inevitable that God ordained for us. I will not venture to debunk every element of this error, because it would complicate this simple devotional thought. However, I will highlight the fact that the Bible is chock full of examples of God creating us with volition. This is one of the greatest gifts He has given us. We may choose to serve Him, or not, according to the dictates of our own free will. Obviously, each set of choices have their inherent “rewards.”
-
Today, we have a decision to make: Will we choose to accept God’s love and power to live above sin by faith, as did all of the covenant keepers of Scripture? Or, will we reject God’s love and live a life of folly and vanity until we die, as did false professors of religion who trusted in their own works, and others who simply have no care for God or for truth? This is key! Although we are still making up our minds as we journey this life, our Sovereign God knows the direction we will go. Based on our own choices, God will ultimately elect those who have saving faith in Him, or not, for those who are not really interested in accepting Him. While, as the Scriptures say, God is not willing that any should perish, He knows that some will choose that tragic outcome for themselves.

Will you choose life with me today, friends? It would not make any sense whatsoever to throw away absolute love and eternal life for fleeting, selfish pleasures. God is not some self-serving ogre who plays arbitrary favorites. He elects those who elect Him. Those who don’t, He sadly allows to bare the consequences of that decision. Which way do you elect?—L.
