The ministry of the Holy Spirit is really underrated. My who profess to follow Jesus do not even realize how pivotal He is to our daily experience.
-
In Luke chapter 4, the Bible teaches that the Holy Spirit launched Jesus’ public ministry after years of private devotion. The Spirit led Jesus from the time of His youth. Jesus was able to do His Father’s will, because the Holy Spirit empowered Him to hear and follow His will. Jesus was able to live the Word, because He grew in the power of the Spirit with every passing day. He was able to show compassion to those who were in need, because the Spirit kept He and the Father in close, vital connection. Therefore, when the fulness of time had come for Jesus to move into the more prominent aspects of ministry, it was critical that He received the special signal of God’s approbation—the infilling of the Holy Ghost. And, in a very open and public way, our Lord moved in the demonstration of the Spirit’s power. All heavenly signs and wonders did follow in Jesus’ ministry.
-
This example is instructive to me. If Jesus was led of the Spirit, then I need to be led by the Spirit. If Jesus touched the lives of the people in the fulness of the power of the Spirit, then I can (and must) too. If Jesus was empowered by the Spirit to live victoriously over the devil’s temptations, then I can live victoriously in His strength.
-
Right before Jesus returned to heaven, He promised to send the Spirit to continue to teach us everything that He commanded. Within this promise also accompanied the presence of Jesus. It is through the omnipresence of the Spirit that Jesus can be with all of His people simultaneously, even until the end of time. Since He and the Holy Spirit have worked inseparably to advance the kingdom of God, we too can experience that blessing, by faith. With the Spirit living in us continually, we cannot fail at accomplishing the Lord’s will.--L. David Harris (www.davidwritesalot.com)
