We are focusing on getting to know God from the perspective of John the beloved.
Today’s Scripture Focus: “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14).
Don’t talk about it; be about it! We live in a day and age when there is no shortage of commentary about everything. There are blog posts, gossip columns, TV entertainment programs, mainstream media commentators, authors, and social media posts about all that matters and some things that don’t matter in the grand scheme. And in all of these media, much is criticized and strategized, but shamefully little done to address the issues. We live in a culture of spectators.
One of the countless remarkable things about Jesus is that He was always known to get in the game. He never just sat on the sidelines to have philosophical discussions of all the world’s ills. Whenever He did speak, it was transformational, and from His messages, people were mobilized to do something to impact their society for good. The Word (whom He was) joined humanity in our sphere for the purpose of making power moves to change us forever. He ate, drank, and slept around those He intended to help. The outcome was that God declared His character, inspired the masses for lasting change, and revealed the brightness of eternity to all those willing to join His winning team.
So really, the lesson for today is, do not aspire to be a wise sage who never gets your hands dirty. Do not settle for being a professional lip service provider. In God’s strength, follow Jesus’ blueprint for providing practical solutions to problems you are perceptible enough to observe and trust God for the result.—L. David Harris (www.DavidWritesaLot.com)
