We are focusing on getting to know God from the perspective of John the beloved.
Today’s Scripture Focus: “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (John 3:3).
We are born into this world against incredible odds. Countless numbers of potential mothers choose, after conception, that they will not carry their babies to full-term. For any number of reasons, they are not comfortable with the idea of rearing and providing for a child. Though circumstances may be adverse, instead of giving the baby a chance by enlisting an adoption agency, many resort to the unthinkable, abortion.
Pregnancies, in general, are often challenged by health conditions that may arise suddenly from seemingly nowhere. Simply carrying a baby to term is a great accomplishment.
Once any baby is born, there is a condition under which they inevitably fall. Every child born is born in sin and shapen in iniquity (Psalm 51:5). Even after beating the odds of possible complications during pregnancy, being born is no guarantee of success. Birth precedes many years of struggle against sin.
With sin as such a formidable enemy of life, how will it be possible for us to, one day, live with God in utopia? How will those who have escaped the odds of premature death, yet are born into this conundrum of sin, finally experience eternity with God? The answer is in Jesus’ statement to Nicodemus when He said, “Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.” (John 3:7). Our natural birth must be improved upon by a spiritual birth. In order to live with a holy God, and other sinless beings, we must be born of the Spirit. The Lord of all salvation must be given permission to manage and control every aspect of our lives. It is when self is replaced by Jesus on the throne of our hearts, that we experience new birth. Just as the wind blows and no one knows from whence it comes or where it is going, so it is with those who are born into the family of God by the Spirit. We can’t always pinpoint the exact turning point in our spirituality, but that does not invalidate the reality of the new birth. When the Lord is in control of our lives, we can revel in that fact that one day we will inherit His kingdom. One day soon we will see Jesus face-to-face. How will this be possible? The Lord Himself offers us a new birth, and if we choose to accept it, He will prepare us for eternity.—L. David Harris (www.DavidWritesaLot.com)
