Thoughts in Worship

We are focusing on getting to know God from the perspective of John the beloved.
Today’s Scripture Focus: “The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw. Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.” (John 4:15–16).
Are you thirsty or satisfied? Your answer to this question will determine your eternal reality. It’s true!
As we mentioned yesterday, Jesus masterfully orchestrated an encounter with a woman who needed His help, which has become a case study for us. Now we know that no matter our background, pedigree, or circumstances, God is ready, willing and available to meet us where we are so He can elevate us to where He is. This is a blessing.
There is still another layer of blessing that can be found just beneath the surface of this story, and we all need to get it. As Jesus closed the gap between her understanding of religion/race relations, and the reality of the equal opportunity Creator, she asked something profound without even knowing it. She asked Jesus to give her everlasting water so she would never thirst again. So, I ask you again, “Are you thirsty, or satisfied?” Your answer to this question will determine your eternal reality. It’s true!
There are so many of us that are quite satisfied with our lives. We have lovely homes, tidy relationships, cute cars, upstanding reputations, and are as parched as the desert floor in the noonday sun. It is often not until things start falling apart that we even realize something is wrong. The inquisitive woman underscored the fact that when we yearn for God and all He has to offer, then receive His gifts by faith, we will never thirst again unless we separate ourselves from Him.
This is how it looks in real life: When the world offers you her wares once you drink freely of the water of life, you will be able to say that you are quite fine without them. The lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and pride of life will no longer provide a draw to you. Why? Let me answer you with a question: Are you satisfied? Your answer to this question will determine your eternal reality. It’s true! Those who are satisfied in the things of God no longer yearn for the things of the world.—L.
