A “smart home” that costs a fortune should not end with the client ripping everything out and going back to basic light switches, but that’s exactly the kind of story we unpack here. Simon Gregory and I start with what we’ve been seeing on the road: real demos, real training, and the small details that separate a slick home cinema experience from a frustrating one that constantly needs rescuing.

We share takeaways from a CAVD day featuring Krix home cinema systems, including what impressed us about the MX20 Mark II in a true residential setup and why output targets, calibration position, and clean demo sources (Kaleidescape, Tidal) shape what clients believe is possible. From there we jump into a CUK showroom visit and the latest Arcam AVRs and processors, plus how these new products and speakers fit better as living room and media room upgrades than as a one-size-fits-all solution for every dedicated theater.

The biggest shift is the announcement: we’re rebranding to The Integrators Voice. The mission is to build a place where integrators can share fixes, compare notes, and give manufacturers and distributors better feedback, whether that becomes Slack, a standalone forum, or something else the community actually uses. We close by reacting to a high-end home automation system being removed due to reliability and support failures, then lay out the practical countermeasures: intuitive design, solid Wi-Fi planning, proper handover documentation, rack labeling, and service level agreements with remote monitoring that prove value every month.

If you build smart homes, media rooms, or dedicated home theaters, subscribe, share this with another integrator, and leave a review. Where should we host the forum so you’d genuinely participate?
