wonderful writing
Another BEAUTIFUL book!
My 11yo 6th grader is an avid reader. Here is her review:
--- "After being separated from her group, and boarding a fisherman's boat in the first book, 12 year old Mathilde must swim to shore. Struggling, she walks to the first house she sees and passes out on the porch. The people at the house care for her, and they discover news about her home country. Mathilde is taken to a refugee center, where she must await any news...Will she reunite with her best friend, Megs? Will she find her group? Find out in this wonderful sequel toBeautiful Blue World! This book is full of love, hope and strength. Many of the great characters in the original book are back, and still written in a real, relatable way. I was so eager to hear their story that I read this book in one day! My favorite character is still Mathilde, who is brave, compassionate, and determined to do what she feels is right. There is a death in this book, which is sad. I would recommend this book to anyone who has read Beautiful Blue World -- and if you haven't, please do! These books are amazing, I recommend for everyone 11+!"
Threads of Blue
This is the second entry in a wonderful series by Suzanne LaFleur. I do strongly suggest that you read the first one Beautiful Blue World. It's the story of a young girl, separated from her family and best friend in a time of war where children are the best weapon.
I work in a middle school media center and we are always on the lookout for new series. Almost every student returns to read when the books are in series. This one has it all--a striking cover, a concise plot, likable characters and originality. Despite this being a fantasy type, children will relate in both good and bad ways. I've already ordered the first book and hope the author continues her writing.
I was such a huge fan of Beautiful Blue World
I was such a huge fan of Beautiful Blue World, the first book in this duology, that I woke up earlier than usual just to get a head start on this one.
