Recorded last week, Joe picks a semi-recent NXT TakeOver gem of a women's match in anticipation of both TakeOver Brooklyn III and the upcoming Mae Young Classic. Jason picks an all-time classic WrestleMania match. And the RMG picks an entertainingly absurd and perplexing match from mid-90's ECW TV. It's a fun one. We're almost to twenty episodes -- woah! This episode, Jason and Joe both pick long matches between great wrestlers, matches that involve lots of super cool moves and a whole boatload of kicks (and Jason's is the sequel to a pick of his from an earlier episode!). But the similarities between the matches also draw out the differences, which the guys don't quite agree on! Plus, luckily, the Random Match Generator is fully functioning again. Answering the challenge posed by the from-the-archives Belushi episode of this very podcast, Jason and Joe both pick Steve "Mongo" McMichael matches to discuss on this episode, and have the audacity to hope that the Random Match Generator might serve up a third. It does not -- rather, it seems to malfunction again. Back from the holiday break with three more matches! Joe picks a match that hadn't even happened when he chose it, but luckily ends up being a whole lot of fun. Jason, to spite the Random Match Generator, picks what he thinks might be the best Ultimate Warrior match ever, which also happens to be from his favorite WWF pay-per-view. And the RMG gives up a... random match. It could've been worse! Topics discussed include the dangers and merits of broad comedy in WWE matches; cocaine and flagrant rule-breaking in sight of the referee; and whether it's possible that R-Truth is an immortal, a time-traveler, or both. Joe gets bitchy about the classic Summerslam match. Jason sort of raps, and he doesn't go with a Road Dogg verse, oh no. We're back on track, and the RMG is functioning fine. Last night was WWE Backlash -- but your hosts did not watch it, because last night was also the return of Twin Peaks. And, as some of you may know, part of the cast of this new season of Twin Peaks is... Jim Belushi. Yes, the very same Jim Belushi from the 1996 film "Race the Sun," and the very same Jim Belushi mentioned in "3: High-flyin’ and throat-spikin’," the 3rd episode of this podcast. So, as a treat for our regular listeners, instead of skipping this week, we've reached into the archives in order to post this special "mini-episode" of Three Out of Three Falls, recorded in early February of this year (between episodes 3 and 4), where we discuss not three matches -- not even a single match -- but, instead, Eric Bischoff's interview with Jim Belushi from WCW Saturday Night, January 20, 1996. A bizarrely Lynchian effort from mid-90's WCW, the interview -- and our discussion of it -- ranges over topics including "Steven" "Mongo" McMichael, blood-covered faces, million-dollar inheritances, wanting to fight Arnold Schwarzenegger at charity events, smokin' stogies, dirt sheets vs hotlines, and an extremely plausible answer to last year's hottest mystery: when would Ric Flair even have met Halle Berry? The Random Match Generator rebounds this week with a pick that at least one of our hosts finds absolutely transcendent! Before that, Jason and Joe discuss a harrowing classic of a brawl from 1985, and a goofy, fun tag-team match from 2012 that descends into light-hearted brutality and chaos. What connects these picks? Well, with Jason and Joe's picks, one could say that they both tell compelling stories through character and violence. As for the RMG's pick this time, Joe claims during the show that it tells a story, but he might've gotten carried away. Unless the story is one of beguiling the audience. PLEASE go watch the match!
