Civic power is the ability to positively change the world. Anyone can change the world for positive or negative but we are going to concentrate on positive changes. When you think of people changing the world positively what comes to your mind first? Most people think of courage, resilience, and persistence. Change-makers have a different perspective and view of what could be because often they don’t fit into the world, they currently live in. Instead of accepting normality as many people would do, they imagine a world where they could fit. This is a very lonely place to be but that is what change makers are: they are the ones that use the void that exists in our society and turn it into a bridge for others. To achieve this takes a lot of pain, empathy, and patience.

Three core ideas to change the world with your civic power

1. Create opportunities: When you create more opportunities, you can use it as a tool to create a positive change. It will enable people to get employment, you can share the ideas, you can give people a reason to live.

2. Do everything in the open: do everything in public, when you do things in public it reaches more people and help accelerate the messages you are trying to get across.

3. Have a strong opinion – People will follow you because of your opinion, those that are opposing your view will look up to you for opposing responses and those that are ambivalent will either follow you or be against you.

In conclusion hate and love are four letters words that are very far apart. Like I illustrated in the beginning of this chapter and the ending where I made mention of people’s life that impacted, influence and change the course of human existence. Today you are the person other people are looking up to draw and summon courage to act. Your life is your civic power, by being your true to yourself you are challenging the stereotypes, by living your authentic life that itself is an act of resistance. You don’t need a super power of any kind to be able to activate your civic power, you just have to be you!
