He talks about how easy it is for us to write ourselves and others off when things get hard! We can easily start feeling discouraged about a situation and losing hope. This happens in sports all the time. People are proclaimed busts, players are shed from rosters because someone loses faith in their abilities, or people lose confidence and start to perform poorly. In Luke 19:1-10 in the Bible we see a story about someone who everyone wrote off, but Jesus was about to start a redemption story. We also see this in sports, and amazingly often on championship teams. A player that was viewed as past his prime, showing up in a winning situation and finding the fountain of youth and contributing in meaningful ways. The Triune God is a redemptive God.
