Thyatira is praised for love, faith, service, and growing perseverance—a church that was, in many ways, spiritually vibrant and active. Yet Jesus rebukes them for tolerating "Jezebel," a figure or influence leading believers into sexual immorality and idolatry under a guise of prophetic authority. The issue wasn't ignorance but permissiveness—allowing sin to operate unchecked in the name of grace or tolerance. This passage warns that love and good works, however admirable, cannot substitute for moral discernment and the courage to confront sin. Holiness requires more than affection and busyness; it demands a refusal to give space to what corrupts. Jesus promises authority and the morning star to those who hold fast and overcome, calling the faithful remnant to pursue purity even amid a compromised community.
This week's passage is Revelation 2:18-29 (NIV).
