An Immigrant’s Life

Through Hardships To The Stars: Elio Morillo

Listen Later

I talked to NASA Engineer, Elio Morillo. He told me about his mom’s incredible sacrifice of being a well-known school principal to cleaning houses and doing odd jobs, when she moved them from Ecuador to New York then to Puerto Rico, and then back to New York, to give him better life opportunities. Learning about English and life from Yu-Gi-Oh! and Pokémon, growing up a “smart ass” that he translated to speaking against injustices in his adulthood, realizing that education is the key out of poverty, his experience through the racist New York public school system, the right way to go to college, and being the team leader for the Perseverance rover that was sent to Mars, and how he dealt with the stress that came with that.

Stay tuned for his book memoir next year called, “The Boy Who Reached For The Stars”
