In a tense interaction with Jesus, we see that the Jews who were following Jesus and believing were offended when Jesus suggested that perhaps they're not as free as they thought. They claim, "We've never been slaves to anyone!" Their problem - they wouldn't admit the truth and instead chose to pretend they were truly free.
