Today's question was sent in by a Step-Dad who is doing his best to connect with his kids on a deeper level while doing his best to avoid conflict within his home.

Question: I started listening to you last week week when my wife found your show. I started at episode one and have started to do the work. My son is 16 and my girls are 10 and 4. My oldest two are from my wife’s previous relationship. Honestly our relationship has been strained due to me trying to the “father figure” from the beginning. I was excited to be that for them but over the last year or 2 it’s just caused a strain. You talk about being more vulnerable to them. My question is how? When I talk to them it’s like they are not interested and wait til I’m done then they go to their room . I want the peace and happiness in our home. Any tips would be appreciated.
