When we think of Caregiving, we often think of family. The daughter taking care of her parents, the husband taking care of a wife, siblings taking care of each other. It is a beautiful thing to be able to count on your family in a time of need, but what happens when things escalate to a point where professional care is needed? A classic example are loved ones who develop dementia and need specialized care, or perhaps a new job is not as flexible and understanding of your caregiving needs.
In this episode of the AARP Prepare to Care podcast, host Marie-Pierre talks to Nancy Wilson. She is a professor of geriatric medicine at the Baylor College of Medicine. She will give us some insights on how to decide when it is time to transition to receive care in a professional setting and the different types of assisted living options available.
