Tips on maintaining a mentor and mentee relationship

Listen Later

When people end up finding a Mentor, the next problem arises which is their inability to maximize or maintain the relationship. This could be out of ignorance of what to do or an overjoy that leads to familiarity. Whether it is a familiar relationship, by that I mean, a mentee/mentor relationship based on friendship or a formal one with an acquaintance, being able to understand what to do at every session will help both parties make the best of the relationship. It should be known that the mentor/mentee relationship benefits both parties as such the tips recorded in this episode should be duly followed. Most importantly as discussed, is the need to document every session. By that I mean, taking down notes for personal use. Both the mentor and the mentee should not just listen but write what is said during this session. The mentor needs this so that she is able to recap all that the mentee may have mentioned to her in a hurry. The mentee on the other hand should keep a journal to write all the suggestions and tips provided by the mentor. At no point should these parties feel too comfortable to meet without documentation. Where this happens, such session will be just a discussion session and parties may not be able to get the best from it. It is also possible that both parties may not remember what was discussed, what action points were made and what the focus should be after the session. This episode provides detailed information and tips for both the mentor and the mentee so at whatever rung of the ladder you are, there is something for you. Happy listening!
