A Tulsa woman remains at large after allegedly using fraudulent identification to cash stolen checks at two MidFirst Bank locations on November 20th. Police say the suspect first entered the bank near East 21st Street around 2:20 p.m., where she successfully cashed a check using fake identification tied to an account that was not her own. Approximately one hour later, the same woman appeared at another MidFirst Bank location near South Peoria Avenue and cashed a second check. When she attempted to cash an additional check, bank staff denied the transaction under standard policy. The suspect then fled the location, leaving behind remaining checks and the fraudulent identification. Investigators estimate the total amount withdrawn at approximately four thousand five hundred dollars. Tulsa Police Department's Financial Crimes Unit is actively seeking the public's assistance in identifying the woman and has released images of the suspect. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Tulsa Crime Stoppers at 918-596-COPS, where tips can be submitted anonymously. A cash reward may be available for information leading to an arrest.
In a separate matter, law enforcement in Sequoyah County is investigating a shooting that occurred early Wednesday morning in the Sequoyah Little Farms area north of Sallisaw. Deputies responded to a residence around 5 a.m. following reports of gunfire. An adult woman sustained minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Investigators with the Sequoyah County Sheriff's Office and agents from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation are conducting interviews and collecting evidence at the scene. Authorities have indicated the shooting appears to be a targeted, isolated event with no ongoing threat to the public.
In Oklahoma County, convicted sex offender Melvin Platt faced court Monday, January 5th, when prosecutors filed two counts of first-degree rape by instrumentation. These charges stem from alleged incidents in May and June of 2016 involving a victim who appeared unconscious in video recordings. The investigation revealed digital evidence recovered from devices that showed the apparent victim unresponsive while being assaulted. The victim subsequently identified herself in the videos and provided details corroborating the allegations. A hearing on whether to revoke Platt's previously suspended sentence has been continued until February 18th. Platt's bond on the new charges is set at one hundred thousand dollars according to the Oklahoma County Bond Schedule.
