Listen Later

This letter from Paul to Titus, his disciple and possibly a close friend or relative to Luke, was intended to offer encouragement and wisdom as Titus endured ongoing opposition from pagans and the religious people within his congregations. Paul instructions were to complete the task of establishing elders or senior leaders within the churches that were under his care including: Galatia, Corinth, Jerusalem, Dalmatia and specifically Crete. Paul’s description of an elder in this letter echo his letter to Timothy as well as Peters letter to the believers. How we act as Christians is based on the fact that “the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people,” and therefore those who believe in Christ are to “live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives” as they await his return. Paul most likely wrote this letter between 67-68 A.D. while he was imprisoned in Rome. It would be one of his last letters ever written before his death.
