TMJ Disorder Explained: Hidden Symptoms & How to Treat The Disorder | Dr. Aryani

Listen Later

Hi, I'm Dr. Aryani. When a patient is diagnosed with TMJ disorder, that means there is a problem in this joint right here. This joint connects the skull to the lower jaw called TMJ, temporo-mandibular joint.

This joint is the most complex joint in our body because not only it has to function harmoniously on both sides, and then one depends on another, but it also can go downward, forward, sideways, and it helps us in speaking, breathing, and even our posture.

Because of the proximity of these joints to other important organs, this disorder can also affect any of these, and that's why the symptoms of TMJ can be in wide range in many different forms, such as headaches, ringing in the ears, shoulder pain, neck pain, clicking, and cramping when the joint is grinding bone on bone, for instance, all the way, maybe shoulder pain, maybe tingling in your fingertips, and because you're clenching and grinding your teeth, your teeth may be sensitive.

All of this has become, one of the symptoms, a sign, symptoms of temporo-mandibular joint disorders.

The diagnosis of TMJD is not only done by clinical evaluation, but also in this practice we do have a CBCT or 3D x-ray.

With this 3D x-ray, we can take a look at how is your joint look like, and because this is also a wide range view, we can also detect where is the airway look like, where is your TMJ, where is your top and bottom jaw look like, and where is your nose as well look like.

When that happens, usually in our practice, we try to take care of the issues with the non-pharmaceutical, non-surgical, and natural treatment with a device that can repair this TMJ, and regenerate, and also relax the muscle, and position the jaw in a way that it can stimulate the regeneration of the TMJ structures again.

So with this, hopefully we can make a more comprehensive evaluation, and then we can have a more holistic approach towards your TMJ issues.

So if you have any of these issues, and you have a question whether you have TMJ or not, TMJD, temporo-mandibular disorder or not, please don't hesitate to call us at 610-664-1641 or 240-550-1442. Thank you.
