Ben Townsend, KNOM News Director extraordinaire, returns to talk about his family’s special tradition of making umpteen dozens of tamales for Christmas. He talks deeply about the many stages of the tamale making process. It is the full meal-deal of tamale details. Ben also notes how this tradition connects him to his Mexican heritage, and his grandma, who turned 90 this year.

Teresa and Ben follow up the tamale discourse by comparing the tamale process with  Teresa’s own family tradition of fish processing. Ben closes the food discussion with a reverence for the cultural preservation that comes along with these family experiences, and how his experiences are closely connected to similar experiences in rural Alaska.
