Americans know all about jockeying for position; attempts to out-smart, out-work, and out-do all others. It’s woven into the fabric of the American story, the warp and weave of the American dream. But Jesus says, “The last will be first, and the first will be last.” In this world of God’s grace, we should strive not to out-pace others, but to serve others. Our call is not to point out how we’re first and others are last, how we’re right and others are wrong, but how to live out our callings in grace-filled humility.
