Humility is the ability to understand and appreciate just how lucky we are to exist. Not everyone is able to do what they want, and many more suffer oppressive existences. With that said, you - if you are reading this right now - are probably not them. You're a "free" Western citizen. And I am talking directly to you. You need to think about your pains, fears, sorrows - any "negative" experience - as opportunities to grow as a being. Why do this? Because, if you do, you're life will fill with meaning, which is another way of saying that your life will "feel" better (or you'll "feel" better about your life). One of the greatest of all ironies is that the best way to plan for the future is to be in the moment. Why? Because, by being present in the moment, we learn. Learning new things, as Alexi Helligar says, "increases our degrees of freedom"; it essentially provides us with more and more opportunities. Don't you want that? Isn't the opposite of that slavery? To be or not to be a slave? Think about it.
