Pt. 5: To Give Me Life

1) Jesus Came to Give Me LIFE.

"24Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life." (John 5:24, ESV)

· Two words for life in the New Testament

o Bios - βίος - BIOLOGICAL life.

"17But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him?" (1 John 3:17, ESV)

o Zoe - ζωή - SPIRITUAL life.

· The Christian faith is LIVING like Jesus lived.

14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life." John 4:14 (ESV)

· I only come alive spiritually when I put my faith IN JESUS.

51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh." John 6:51 (ESV)

· Jesus wants my life to be ABUNDANT.

10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. John 10:10 (ESV)

2) To Be Light:

THIS MEANS…

· If there's light, then there's also DARKNESS.

46 I have come into the world as light…John 12:46a (ESV)

· Jesus is the WAY OUT of the darkness.

…so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness. John 12:46b (ESV)

13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1:13-14 (NIV)

· To be in the light I must accept and live by the TRUTH.

37 Then Pilate said to him, "So you are a king?" Jesus answered, "You say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world—to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice." John 18:37 (ESV)

· How will I WALK light in 2024?

7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 1:7 (ESV)
