Our first real guest episode, and apparently we're doing this for real now.
We start with the strange experience of beginning something new before you feel completely ready, then dig into a new study estimating the prevalence of CTE among deceased former NFL players and what happens when researchers try to account for one of the biggest criticisms of brain-bank research: selection bias.
Then we turn to mindfulness and readiness with sport psychology researcher Tommy Minkler. Jason and Ekat try to make sense of Tommy's research on Mindful Sport Performance Enhancement before inviting him in to tell us what we got right, what we got wrong, and what we missed.
Finally, Heather takes over for a Halloween chat about costumes, questionable choices, and whatever else she decides we deserve.
Come curious. You don't have to have it figured out.
Meet Jason, Ekaterina, and Heather, and the slightly messy, very human idea behind To Science With Love. In this pilot episode, we introduce ourselves, talk about the values we want to bring to the show, including kindness, curiosity, and creativity, and explain why being willing to say “I don’t know” is part of the point.
We also preview what’s ahead: digging into research, trying to understand it in plain language, inviting researchers and experts to tell us what we got right, wrong, or missed, and making science feel a little more approachable along the way.
There will be mistakes. There will be laughter. We’ll learn as we go.
