Even as John was instructed to write unto the Church in Ephesus, he was called also to pen a letter, issuing forth from Christ's own mouth, to the Church in Smyrna. A letter to a congregation who had suffered much reproach at the hands of the wicked, who was poor in worldly resources, who would also soon suffer again. The Church is not called to believe that they will not suffer, be tried, tested, and experience the tribulation.
