“The secret to happiness is to want what you have.”

Jesus gives us all we need, and we have it! But… what do we want?

While John’s congregations are facing false teachers, there’s always a deeper, more personal, problem in these things: our desires.

So John reiterates the truths of the Gospel for us, while also warning us about just following our desires wherever they lead. Because they won’t likely lead us back to the Father.
