St Barnabas, Apostle and “son of consolation,” is honoured today in a feast transferred due to the Pentecost Octave. A Levite from Cyprus, full of the Holy Ghost and faith, he brought Saul into the Church’s mission and discerned God’s grace among the Gentiles. Martyred for Christ, Barnabas lived the Gospel we hear today: sheep among wolves. His example of wisdom, fidelity, and sacrifice calls the Church in our time to apostolic courage and supernatural charity.
