Boris Johnson prime minister 2019 | podcast S1E7.5 theological response
This podcast is just a one off, so falls between 7 and 8.
It’s a political response to Boris Johnson being elected to being prime minister. It’s not me saying that it is a good or a bad thing, but a way of looking at the situation… in terms of Blackadder, Schrodinger’s cat, and the Bible.
Oh, and a Roman emperor.

Boris is pm
People upset similarly to Brexit
Main complaint from people is that the new PM is: outspoken, possibly racist, self-centred. Personally no comment
Political meme cartoon suggested by a friend of mine stirred up quite a conversation (see the featured image on this page_
Christians: how can God so this? Boris doesn’t like God surely?
Firstly…. it’s a bit Schrodinger’s cat.

Brexit, the box is yet to be opened
Boris…. who knows how this will
play out?
Theology we could see in this
free will
- Command to pray for leaders
- God loves him whatever; we are no better than him. Judge Boris, you’re
going to judge yourself. (I was happy to do the cartoon as it would get people
talking rather than any particilular view. This is called satirical humour)How can God work through people who don’t follow him because of the free
will clause?
Moses vs pharaoh
God hardened his heart: God made
pharaoh do a bad thing?
The inclination of our own hearts.
When God covers us, hearts are
softened. Slopes.
Stone prevented from rolling down
Judas not made to sin against Jesus,
but allowed to, so as to create the death that leads to resurrection. Heart Breaking
for Jesus and God because Judas was as loved as all the rest of us!
There was a Roman called
Constantine….313ad. Horse. Vision of Christ
But…. also ‘control the religion
you control the people, based on control and ideology. Whatever, it led to the
strengthening of Christian faith and its establishment. ‘. Was he a Christian?
Who knows! But…
What can we do?
- Pray Gods will
- Pray B sees it when God puts things in front of him
- People around him to say the right things at the right moment
- That with Gods hand on him softening his heart he will make right choices
Below is the inclination of our hearts passage, in old king James language
Psalm 141
- LORD, I call upon thee, haste thee unto me: and consider my voice when I cry unto thee.
- Let my prayer be set forth in thy sight as the incense: and let the lifting up of my hands be an evening sacrifice.
- Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth: and keep the door of my lips.
- O let not mine heart be inclined to any evil thing: let me not be occupied in ungodly works with the men that work wickedness, lest I eat of such things as please them.
- Let the righteous rather smite me friendly: and reprove me.
- But let not their precious balms break my head: yea, I will pray yet against their wickedness.
- Let their judges be overthrown in stony places: that they may hear my words, for they are sweet.
- Our bones lie scattered before the pit: like as when one breaketh and heweth wood upon the earth.
- But mine eyes look unto thee, O Lord God: in thee is my trust , O cast not out my soul.
- Keep me from the snare that they have laid for me: and from the traps of the wicked doers.
- Let the ungodly fall into their own nets together: and let me ever escape them.
