The Powers said ACGA and most of its members, which are non-profits receiving charitable gaming proceeds, vehemently oppose new gambling and any casinos in Alaska. A gaming company likely tied to Eklutna's effort to start a casino near Birchwood (part of Anchorage) has hired a $72,000 state lobbyist and Sandy Powers discussed the presumed connection to the recent Anchorage Assembly's passage of sovereignty/governance recognition to Eklutna and how that effort and a casino push are likely linked.
