There's confidence a larger number of retirement villages in the pipeline won't end up being white elephants.
A new study by real estate and investment management business JLL New Zealand has found 81 new retirement villages are planned throughout New Zealand.
That's despite an annual rise of only zero point two percent in the number of Kiwis over the age of 75 living in them.
JLL New Zealand associate director Tom Barclay told Mike Hosking there's been a slight fall in demand because of factors like the levelling off of house prices.
"We're forecasting over 25-year time horizon so comparisons this year don't have as much meaning when we look at the silver tsunami that's going to be coming over the next few decades."
