Tony Williams: New high-tech point to point speed cameras labelled as revenue collecting

Listen Later

A road and traffic education specialist says new high-tech "point to point" speed cameras being tested in Auckland are pointless.
The cameras will be trialled in Auckland's Waterview Tunnel and Southern Motorway for a year before a possible countrywide expansion.
They are designed to calculate your average speed over a distance, and issue tickets if you exceed the average for more than a few seconds.
Head of the road and traffic education centre, Tony Williams told Mike Hosking they are no better than the cameras we already have.
"Why not put a speed camera up there and use that? It's another revenue collecting idea I suppose."
