1. Great communication results in a great sense of connection:
   • Connection happens when each person knows he or she has been understood by the other. 
   • Being understood doesn't require being agreed with! 
2. Two main goals of communication:
   • Transmit and Receive 
     1. Generally, we are best at transmitting (talking), but receiving (listening) is by far the most difficult, yet important part of communication.
     2. Receiving (listening) brings a deep sense of connection.
3. Tip #1:
   • Ask open-ended questions
     1. Open-ended questions invite conversation.
     2. Gone are the one-word answers (even with teenagers!).
     3. Hear strategies on this podcast for being great at asking inviting questions!
4. Tip #2:
   • Paraphrase what you hear your spouse say
     1. This technique is a game changer!
     2. Allows for clarification.
     3. Communicates an understanding.
     4. Prevents the huge communication roadblock of interrupting.
