ABOUT DARYL BROOKS
I’m a TS/SCI-cleared Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) who has 20 years of experience working in the federal sector and in the IT industry. I am a proud graduate of 2 HBCUs: Delaware State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems, and Bowie State University, earning a Masters of Science in Information Security Management.
In addition, I have over 20 professional certifications in the IT field and my experience ranges from computer hardware support to cybersecurity analysis. Growing up, I always had an interest in technology but the tipping point came during my sophomore year when I applied to and was hired on to work for my college's Academic Computing Office. . There, I would help fellow students setup & troubleshoot their campus computer/email accounts and shadow the IT technicians on the more technical assignments. I learned that I really enjoyed using my growing knowledge of computing to help others and from there, I declared my major in Management Information Systems. This greatly helped me to begin navigating which areas of IT interested me the most and where I could have the most impact in serving others. After much research and exposure to the field, I decided to pursue a career in Information Security (more specifically now, Cybersecurity).
Having direct involvement in defending people and businesses from digital threats, gives me the biggest sense of career fulfillment.
Previously, my duties have ranged from coordinating and sending out messaging to other federal agencies regarding various cybersecurity-related issues to creating and securing virtual machines, assisting the internal information security office with an external security audit, to internal account management (creating, modifying, and deleting user profiles according to their job roles).
