Performing at our very best is a challenging science. There are all these little things in our lives that dictate our emotions unless we can learn to become aware of them and take that control back.

Recently it occurred to me, while in an argument with my girlfriend, that I was tense because of no other reason than I was calorie deprived. Having skipped lunch to get work done and pressing on past the point of dinner, I had now picked her up to engage 20 minutes later in a conversation that required a lot of details. Feeling exhausted (my brain not having the true energy necessary) I responded more intensely than usual, catching her off guard.
I share all of this to be transparent in my realization of how much our reactions to things are not how we would react if we were taking better care of ourselves. Simply making sure I ate lunch could have resolved an argument before it ever happened! What a time and relationship saver.
In this episode, I share a few ways I've learned to pay attention to. Such as my emotions and other stimulants that cause them to sway too far in either direction. The goal is to have a consistent flow of energy. You don't want so much energy that you are burned by the afternoon or so little energy that you can't focus. Both too much or too little energy negatively influence clear thinking and your ability to execute. Your goal is to find neutral and stick closely to it, having a consistent flow of energy all day. Watch the differences that will happen when you take back control of your internal focus by making sure the right external factors are in their place!
