Torah 37 Tinyana: Serving G-d for His Sake Alone; Torah 38: Why the Tzadik Lowers Himself

Torah 37 Tinyana: Rabeinu explains that there’s the person who does everything in this world in order to fill his desires, to bring inheritance to his children with impure money, and goes through a lifetime with no purpose. There’s also a person who serves G-d with the desire to attain the World to Come. This is much better than the first person, but is still considered “filling your belly” and filling your desires.

But King David, upon him be peace, did everything to serve G-d in this world without any desire for this world or the world to come, but only to serve G-d for His sake alone! This is the level everyone must strive for!

Torah 38: There are times when the tzadik will travel to his students and there are times when the students travel to him. The greater one is when when the bigger person travels to the smaller. Why? Because the Tzadik’s light is so great that it cannot be received by the student if the student comes to the Tzadik… so the tzadik must lower himself by going to the small person in order to minimize the light for the small person to receive it!
