Rabeinu teaches us that in order to see the downfall of the wicked one can only do so through the holiness of Eretz Yisrael, which is brought into revelation through the merit of the Avot/forefathers.

Rabeinu then describes how the wicked try to attack their enemies with the “evil eye” and in order to protect oneself from this, he has to find merit in the wicked, just as G-d does. Doing this actually gives the upper hand to the tzadik and protects him from the poison of the wicked one.
