Torah 77 Tinyana: Eating in Holiness Sweetens our Suffering

Listen Later

Each and every Jew must experience suffering every single day. And the greater one’s consciousness/knowledge of G-d, the greater his suffering must be!

Rabeinu explains why this is so and answers this with regard to the passageway of the tefillin: which allows the strap of leather to pass through the box of Tefillin! The strap signifies fear and the box represents wisdom! Meaning that anyone who merits attaining holy mentalities (tefillin) has to also accept this fear (strap) with it, as fear and wisdom are dependent upon each other. And this fear devolves into suffering! So we see that the greater one’s mentalities are, the greater his suffering must be.

BUT, Rabeinu teaches us how to sweeten this suffering and ensure our suffering doesn’t devolve from fallen fears/the evil strap. How? By eating with fear of Heaven and holiness, one is able to draw the Fear of G-d, which stands next to him during mealtime, in himself. With this, he’s able to sweeten the suffering, to elevate his mouth into the category of man , and elevate his mouth even higher into the aspect of the Supernal Man, where the Divine Presence speaks through this person!
